Welcome to St John Ambulance Uganda

St John Uganda is part of the international fraternity of the Order of St John operating in over 35 countries worldwide consisting of 11 Priories, five commanderies and 27 Associations. Collectively, these organizations deliver community – based health care services including first aid, ambulance services, and medical responses, primarily in Commonwealth countries and territories.

St John Uganda is governed by a Council of more than 11 volunteers, led by the Chairman / Commander. The Council is responsible for formulating and amending policies that guide the Association, as well as overseeing the work of the Secretariat, which serves as the administrative arm of the Organization headed by the National Executive Secretary. The operational arm of St John Uganda is St John Ambulance which is structured into three key wings: First aid and Emergency services, Community Health Programs, and Youth Development and Training. These wings work together to fulfil St John Uganda’s mission of providing life-saving services and strengthening community health and resilience.

The operations of St John began in Uganda in 1930 and it was officially registered as a corporate body with effect from the 12th day of August 1957 by Sir Crawford the Governor in 1957 under the Trustee Ordinance, Cap. 126, revised Edition, 1951 and again in 2004, it was registered under the Non-governmental Organisations Registration Statute, 1989 as an NGO.  In 2022, it was re-registered under the NGO Organisation Act 2016. The headquarters of St John Uganda are located on Plot 29 Bombo Road, Kampala

Since its inception, St John Uganda has been actively involved in providing training and emergency services in areas such as ambulance services, first aid, home nursing, road safety and sale of medical supplies. Over time, St John expanded its scope of activities to include occupational health and safety and firefighting.  The latest addition to its offering 10 year ago is the maternal and infant health services, further strengthening its commitment to community well-being and health.
